Solutions / Higher Education
Academic integrity that survives the faculty senate.
Evidence-based assessment integrity for universities, community colleges, and online programs. No lockdown browser. No student backlash. No accessibility complaints.
The proctoring status quo is costing you more than money.
Broken tech, buried helpdesk
Lockdown browsers break accessibility tools and crash on Chromebooks. Your helpdesk fields the tickets.
Appeals nightmares
Auto-flagging systems create appeals nightmares. Your conduct office absorbs the fallout.
Student trust erosion
Students dread proctored exams. Your institution absorbs the reputation cost.
How Nigel solves it
A workflow built for how universities actually run assessments, from the LMS launch to the conduct office review.
Launch from your LMS
Students launch from Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, or D2L. No separate login, no new account, no extra password to reset.
AI monitors, faculty configure
AI monitors the room while faculty configure allowed items per exam. Open-note stays open-note without triggering a flag storm.
Humans review, not algorithms
Flags go to reviewers, not algorithms. Appeals are built in, so a flagged moment becomes a documented review, not an automatic accusation.
FERPA compliant by design
Nigel operates under the school official exception, so student data stays governed by your institution's FERPA obligations.
Key features, ranked for higher ed
Every Nigel deployment gets the full platform. These are the capabilities higher education teams lean on first.
LTI integration
One-click launch from your LMS. Works with Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, and D2L out of the box.
Allowed items per exam
Faculty define what belongs on the desk for each assessment, from open-note midterms to closed-book finals.
Appeals workflow
Mapped to your student conduct process, with evidence and documentation at every step.
FERPA school official model
Student data handled under the school official exception, aligned with institutional policy.
360 room view
Full-room verification without the awkward laptop-pan ritual, so blind spots stop being a debate.
Built for the people who own the outcome
Assessment integrity touches three offices at once. Nigel gives each one what it actually needs.
Provost / CAO
“Protect institutional reputation with evidence, not surveillance.”
IT Director
“Zero client-side software. LTI setup in under an hour. No exam-day helpdesk surge.”
Faculty
“Configure, enable, review. Get back to teaching.”
Higher education FAQ
Do students need to install special software?
No lockdown browser and no desktop client. Students use a lightweight Chrome extension and launch directly from your LMS. It works on Chromebooks, plays nicely with screen readers and other accessibility tools, and uninstalls cleanly.
How does it integrate with Canvas or Blackboard?
Nigel is an LTI tool. Your LMS admin adds it once, and faculty enable it per assessment like any other integration. Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, and D2L are all supported, and typical setup takes under an hour.
What happens when AI flags something?
The flag routes to a human reviewer with the visual evidence and timestamp attached. Nothing is auto-scored and no student is auto-accused. Reviewers dismiss, escalate, or document each flag, and every decision leaves an audit trail.
Is it FERPA compliant?
Yes. Nigel operates under the FERPA school official exception, meaning we act on your institution's behalf, use student data only for the integrity service you contracted, and never sell or repurpose it.
Can students appeal a flag?
Appeals are a first-class feature, not an afterthought. The workflow maps to your existing student conduct process, and every appeal includes the original evidence, reviewer notes, and decision documentation.
